Broker's Comments

Arpeges are much sought-after by people who value the traditional virtues of good looks, good sea-keeping and lively performance. The Arpege came to the forefront after winning the world half ton cup in 1970. This particular model was highly successful on the regional racing circuit in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s winning divisional titles and boat of the year. She won on both ‘round the buoys’ and trans north sea races facing severe conditions.

The fine ends and relatively wide beam render the boat with no aft cabin or fore-cabin but she does have six secure sea berths. Two are in the quarters and there are four more in the saloon: one on each long straight settee, and a pilot berth on each side, snugly above and outboard the settees. The beauty of the two after quarter berths is that the main cabin can be separated from the gallery and chart table whilst making a passage. She boasts a good-sized chart table, inclined like a proper chart table should be, and hinging up to allow access to plentiful storage. On deck, she has a deep, secure cockpit. Side-decks are comfortingly wide. To top all, her lines are beautiful, with generous overhangs, and fine entry and exit lines.

She was re-keeled in the 70’s with a more efficient deeper fin keel. She now draws 5’6 and obviously performs a lot better than all the others. She also comes with the retrousee stern – a lot prettier in my opinion. This boat is well balanced in all sailing conditions whether up wind or off wind, with the right amount of weather helm. She has been fitted with a profurl genoa system and has an extensive sail wardrobe that is stored very easily upfront.
