The Katalinic 750 Underway
The name of this Custom Wooden Sloop (Katalinic 750) translates to “Little Sun” and her current owner says he fell in love with her before she was even built!
The original builder was Dado Katalinic, a designer from a boat-building family with more than 100 years’ history. Although he built other wooden boats using the WEST System, this boat was the only one he ever built for himself. She was originally a project to enable him to pass on his skills to his son, Ivan, as his father had passed on his skills before him. Unfortunately, the father and son team only got as far as building the hull!

She then languished sadly in a workshop for over a year before her current owner saw her. Of their first meeting, he says, “I saw that boat laying there unfinished and fell in love with her. So I bought equipment for the deck and just asked Dado to finish her for me.” Three months later they took to the water together for the first time.

This incredibly pretty, extremely light, nimble little wooden boat has since had a really interesting sailing life, cruising all over the Adriatic with the owner’s family and friends and taking part in numerous regattas. And she has been a perfect partner. As far as regattas go, she has delivered some great results in her class. Sailing-wise, her owner describes her as “really easy to sail, great for short-handed sailing and really like sailing some small one-design class!” Similarly, as far as cruising goes, her shallow draft of 1.2 m has allowed her to take her owner to quiet local bays and ports where few other boats can anchor, allowing access to some incredible beauty spots on the Dalmatian Coast.

This 4 berth, 1996 wooden sloop is currently for sale in Croatia with John Harkness of Boatshed Dalmatia, Croatia and Slovenia’s own unique brand of International Yacht Brokers. He says, “We were really happy to list this Katalinic 750 - we love to take on really original one-off boats and meet the challenge of finding the perfect second owner for them. We always try to have a real range of used boats for our clients, from the smallest wooden sailing boat to extremely large motor yachts. But big or small – we take the same pride in finding the right owner for every boat! Lynn Kennedy, his partner at Boatshed Dalmatia adds, “This is a lovely light, fast, cruiser racer. With little use over the past 2 years, she now just really needs a new owner to take her on some new adventures!”
