Let's hope you or anyone else you know never need them, but for those of us who take to the water in any way, there's that reassurance that the RNLI lifeboat volunteer crews protect people throughout the UK and Ireland with their 24-hour search and rescue service.

They average one call out per hour so somewhere, right now, someone is in danger and they're out there in all types of weather rescuing ordinary people in all kinds of situations.

As a charity, the RNLI depends on your support to help meet the cost of saving lives at sea. Volunteers give up their time free of charge but they need to be trained and have the very best equipment to enable them to do the job.

If you're sailing around the Cumbraes and happen to be ashore in Millport on the 13th of July, spare a thought for the massive amount of money needed to run this incredible lifesaving service and pop some money into their collection boxes. The Largs RNLI team will be around from 9-5pm so it's easy to donate if you're out and about that day.

Remember, it's all about saving lives quickly, safely and effectively. Every penny helps!
