One of Boatshed Dalmatia’s boats sales strengths in selling boats in Croatia and Slovenia is that they focus exclusively on selling used boats.

However, this didn’t stop the extremely new Greenline 33 Hybrid catching the eye of both John Harkness and Lynn Kennedy at Slovenia’s biggest boat show at Portoroz Marina.

The Greenline 33 is the result of J & J Design, Seaway and VW Marine working together to answer the question of how boating can be made greener. They began their quest with a patent pending, ‘superdisplacement’ hull, which uses less than ½ the fuel of a comparable displacement hull and ¼ of the fuel used by a twin engine planing boat of the same size. They then followed this with a diesel/electric hybrid propulsion system (diesel drive, electric drive and an Iskra Electric Motor/Generator) which was designed and engineered to help the Greenline 33 match the fuel usage of a sailboat the same size! Quite a claim for a pure motor boat! With the hull and hybrid system in place, VW Marine then delivered a TDI 75-4 diesel engine which gives this ‘Volksboat’ a top speed of over 10 knots and a range of 700 nm at a cruising speed of 7 knots.

The Greenline 33 aims to be a motor boat with no smoke, no noise and virtually no wake. A full battery bank, excluding the energy coming from the solar roof, also gives her up to 20 nm – more than enough to cover short day trips.

As Tilen Jakopin of Seaway told Lynn of Boatshed Dalmatia, “My family has been on the sea for more years than I can count. Yet motor boats never really changed in all that time – they remained noisy, with ineffective planing hulls, no decent cruising range and a real lack of comfort. I love the sea but after a week I often found my subconscious looking for excuses to ‘escape’ the boat – did I water the plants, leave the iron on, etc.? What we have done is not only make motor boating greener, but also much more comfortable. For example, we have a decent toilet and shower and real beds with mattresses and sheets you can buy anywhere. The same with the kitchen – buy any fridge you like – there is 220V on board. Basically, you can bring anything you want from home. Design-wise, you also have the bonus that the Greenline 33 has simple, classic lines that will never date – we think she is pretty timeless.”

John of Boatshed Dalmatia says, “We love this concept. At Boatshed Dalmatia we have a really simple goal - to get everyone out on the water in the type of boat that suits them best. For those wanting a brand new, ‘green’ power boat, this is a great option. We ourselves may not sell brand new boats, but we are always happy to support innovation in the Slovenian marine industry, particularly when a company is working hard to make boating greener. Also, whilst these boats are only just being produced, we are already looking forward to listing the first used one!”
